Partly. Since January 2026 PayPal has let people in Nigeria receive payments by linking a Paga wallet; check availability and costs in your accounts. Our guide to receiving dollars lists other options.
What is the best way to receive dollars in Nigeria?
Wise does not give people living in Nigeria USD account details for receiving payments. Payoneer offers USD receiving accounts with withdrawal in NGN to a Nigerian bank account; an annual fee of US$29.95 applies if the account receives less than US$6,000 in 12 months (Payoneer's pricing page, checked 22 October 2026). Is it legal to freelance online from Nigeria?
Yes. You're self-employed and earning foreign income. You must declare earnings to the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS, formerly FIRS) above the tax-free threshold. Many freelancers register a Business Name with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC); check the current fee on the CAC portal.
How much can a Nigerian freelancer realistically earn?
It varies too much by skill, client market and hours for one honest number. Before you set your rates, look at what clients currently pay for your skill on the platform you plan to use.
